AGREEMENT FOR A WAGE INCREASE IN THE TEXTILE INDUSTRY IN BANGLADESH

Representatives of Bangladeshi garment workers and employers have reached an agreement in principle to raise the minimum wage starting December 1st, with the first increase taking effect in January. The exact amount of the raise is yet to be determined. This progress comes after several days of protests and clashes, with workers demanding a monthly increase of 12,500 to 30,000 Taka to cope with the rising cost of living.
