The Paraguayan president forced to resign

Legal Published on 05/11/2026 | 20:12

Paraguayan President Santiago Peña announced his resignation on November 5, brought down by a severe banking crisis linked to the collapse of the digital bank Ueno. The bank's closure deprived nearly three million customers of access to their savings and sparked several days of protests. Weakened by his past financial ties to the group that owned the bank, Peña also faced impeachment proceedings unanimously approved by the Chamber of Deputies. His vice president, Pedro Alliana, is expected to succeed him.
